My daughter, Kaela, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma (bone cancer) ten years ago. Kaela was just 5 years old when we started our journey for treatment. Along the way, we met many families and organizations. We were so fortunate to meet Barbara, the courageous founder of Candlelighters NYC. Barbara opens her home to hundreds of families receiving pediatric treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center – many of whom are facing challenging treatments in an unfamiliar city. Her organization works tirelessly to be a home away from home for cancer patients, their siblings and families. The volunteer team provides parties, concert tickets, sporting event opportunities and countless fun experiences. They let kids be kids amidst the treatments, scans and surgeries. In addition, this 501(c)(3) charity offers much needed logistical and emotional support.
This November, I am running my first TCS New York City Marathon to support Candlelighters NYC! Please help me reach my goal!
